Hushbox

How this works: nothing here is a recording. Every sound is generated live by your browser from filtered noise and shaped oscillators, which means it never loops, never repeats itself, and keeps going as long as you like. It also means the whole page is a few kilobytes and works with the internet switched off. The cafe channel builds its chatter from layered formant filters — the same resonances a throat produces — so it reads as five people talking nearby without ever forming words you could follow. Thunder is deliberately spaced out, arriving every ten to thirty seconds or so.
